QUEER COSY CAFÉ IN LAPPERANTA

QUEER COSY CAFÉ IN LAPPERANTA

Queer cosy café where
I sit at midday
lost in the fortress of Lepperanta.
Quite Victorian it looks
with its old furniture,
white lace curtains, pictures
and ornaments,
and the clock on the wall
between the windows
telling the time with a silent voice.
Quarter tone, tic, tac…

Two china dolls dance
on a table with a forced
movement, while angels
look at the sky near them.

On my right, the cakes desk.
A beautiful golden samovar
keeps the tea hot.
Nice mugs and cups
decorated with flowers and leaves
pass from the desk to the tables
bringing moments of relax,
pleasure or, perhaps,
just the reason to sit down at one
of the dining-room tables
and write these words,
memories of a five days trip to Finland.

A nice cake
made of fruit and cream
goes with my tea with milk…
Do I fit in here?
It’s funny.
I reject most of what
this Victorian style means,
but I also enjoy it…
and dream of travelling and travelling
as an inescapable part
of my chosen life.
